How Did I Quilt It?

A few weeks ago, I put together this quick quilt using stash batik for the border and jelly roll. But how did I quilt it?

This is couch size, about 47″ x 67″. Or you could use it on a twin sized mattress.

To start, I always decide how to “divide and conquer”...meaning, what sections am I using as my basic quilting area? Am I quilting individual blocks? An all over design? Or sections? For this quilt, I decided to use each 4-block section of the log cabin design.

And then I grabbed my iPad to doddle a bit. I finally settled on quilting the light centered sections with a feather medallion and the dark centered sections with SID and swirl/feathery each corner.

These doodles aren’t much to look at, but they do help me make decisions about what to quilt where.

Next up was SID, using MonoPoly (starting in the center) and then outward row by row until each individual log cabin block is SID.

For the medallions, I used my Cindy Needham Ultimate Stencil to trace a center circle and larger circle. Then I filled in the center with free hand feathers using a variegated light to dark gold 50 wt thread (Fantastico). Then more feathers on the outside of the center circle. A different style feather shape was used for the large outside circle.0

Here you can see the feathers that I did for the quilt border.

Do I have a photo of the whole quilt quilted? Well, no. No I do not. This one went out the door so quickly to a family members that I did not get a whole quilt photo! Oops!

Happy quilting! And don’t forget to take photos!
