Quilting the Tree of Life

This panel, I confess, was not a favorite when I received it. The gold background on the panel is duller in person. It took some time to figure out how to balance the color. But I was determined to get it pieced and finished.

As I quilted, it grew it on me. (Pun intended!)

First, as always, the seams were SID with MonoPoly and the tree outlined. I used a curly motif as background, repeating the curly tree branch motif in the panel.

The curlicues continue into the border.
And overlap the bottom section a bit.
The lower section of the panel is stitching in a light brown crosshatch. The clamshells were outlined and the background channel quilted in metallic gold. Fleur de lis were added to the clamshells in metallic gold.

My signature little fishies found their way into the lower parts of the panel. Trees need water and the fish signify that fact!

I outlined the diamond shapes in the middle border diamonds with light gold, and then added a simple 1.4″ outline on the triangle border gold and red pieces.

The entire piece was blocked and steamed.

Finished size is 34″ 49″. A hanging sleeve was added to the back.

When in doubt, quilt it out!

Happy quilting,

Lennea
