12 Days of Christmas Tree

Last week, I showed you the 12 Days of Christmas cockatiel. This week, I have completed the basic pattern, with the exception of the specialty ornaments. Perhaps I will do one a month for the next year? Or have a really great idea for an alternate?

But it is time to move on and tackle my pile of tops that need quilting, including this one.

Close up of paper pieced tree section.

As I started decorating the packages, I dug into my odds and ends and found some white ribbons, and of course buttons. Lots and lots of buttons. Why not use bottons to decorate these pretty packages?

Laying out the presents against the template. These shapes are all turned and machine stitched.
No idea where that little tassel came from, but I have had it for at least a decade!
This is from my vintage button collection! I purchased the gold velvet ribbon.
Another old, single button from the “pearl button” box.
Vintage button with matching center stitching.
Ribbon and button from stash.

The packages all in their row, machine appliquéd with matching thread.

Shiny pearl and gold button. Machine, turned edge applique in gold thread.

The border and tree fabrics are part of a collection. I really liked the blue tones! I purchased them and the background fabrics, and used stash for part of the paper pieced tree sections, presents, the cockatiel, and the star. I will use the border fabric for binding.

Completed top! I really like the way the button shines in the middle of the star.

This tree will join my other paper pieced trees when I decorate for the holidays. This Esther Aliu pattern goes together pretty quickly compared to others I have made.

Happy quilting!
